1950s Kromhout Gardner 2LS (LW)

Engine current condition - Awaiting inspection

Kromhout Gardner 2LS (LW) (20hp @ 1000rpm) this engine type was built under licence from L Gardner & Sons by Kromhout Motoren Fabriek in Holland. This particular engine is essentially a Gardner 2LW with the added feature that it is a true ships diesel engine (scheepsdiesel) with split crankcase specifically designed for marine use to allow all maintenance to be carried out from above. Similar crankcase design to that of the Gardner L2 series engines.

Rebuilt back in 2013/14 by another engine builder to power a narrowboat, the owner has been suffering from persistant oil leaks and in recent months a suspected big end bearing failure.  It has been temporarily removed and sent to us to investigate and carry out the required restoration work so this engine can return to its home for many more years of service.
