1956 Gardner 6L3

Gardner 6L3 - Year of Manufacture 1956

Engine current condition - Undergoing Restoration

This 1956 built Gardner 6L3, 112hp @ 900 rpm was temporarily removed from the Beta III an ex Thames fire boat and sister ship to the Massey Shaw. This historic ships register vessel was built in 1926 by Merryweathers of Greenwich. Seeing service during WWII fighting fires in London she remained in service until the late 1950's. Shortly after she had her original twin Gleniffer engines removed and this Gardner 6L3 fitted in their place. Having been left idle for some time this engine did start although only on a couple of its six cylinders. It was removed and sent to MPS to carry out the repairs and major servicing required to get the engine in good running order for the Beta III's trip from Rye to the Thames on completion of her restoration and conversion.
